Midwest Family Mutual Introduces First Class Portfolio in the State of Idaho

Posted on 12/28/2023

Midwest Family Mutual (MFM) will commence writing First Class Portfolio (FCP) in the state of Idaho effective 1/1/2024. At a time of accelerating home and auto rate increases, MFM is taking the opportunity to expand its market share in the “Gem State.”  This is a move that will diversify the company’s geographic exposure while reducing the wind/hail risk that traditionally comes with its personal lines book east of the Rockies.

FCP is a customized home, auto, and umbrella package that focuses on affluent individuals and families. Eligibility requires a home with a replacement cost of at least $500,000 built in the last 25 years and an insurable interest in at least two vehicles. This flexible offering is able to accommodate boats, ATV’s, and a wide array of scheduled personal property and fine arts. Along with competitive pricing, the Homeowners coverage is highlighted by a 200% of replacement cost limit that can be used for the home, personal property, appurtenant structures, and loss of use. Unique coverages like equipment breakdown and identity recovery are also provided. Optional flood and earthquake will also be optionally offered. The Auto coverage includes New Car Replacement for newer models, pet coverage, first accident waivers, and roadside assistance. Higher UM/UIM options are available and there’s an option for collector car coverage with a recent appraisal. Independent Agents offering personal lines have found MFM’s First Class Portfolio to be a real differentiator in a hardening market with coverage enhancements that provide peace of mind to both Agent and Insured.

MFM wrote its first FCP policy in 2015, and has seen accelerated growth in recent years as we’ve expanded the product to new states. With Idaho, FCP is now offered in 17 states and we’re approaching $30M of written premium. Over $8.3M of new business FCP was written in 2023 alone. The velocity of this revenue growth is expected to increase as the company starts writing business in the state of Idaho in 2024.
